(JTA) - Yom HaShoah, Israel’s , begins Sunday night, marking the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and serving as a memorial day for the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis. This year, as the Israel-Hamas war enters its seventh month, the day takes on added symbolism: It is the first Yom HaShoah since , which was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Yom HaShoah, which was first observed in Israel in 1951 and became enshrined into law later in the decade, is viewed by many Jewish communities around the world as their primary day for Holocaust remembrance. The United Nations’ International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which falls annually on Jan. 27, often draws attention from non-Jews, offering an opportunity for Holocaust survivors and Jewish groups to reach a wide audience. It’s a sentiment that is widely shared this year by families of the hostages and the millions of Jews in Israel and around the world who have mounted a sweeping advocacy campaign pressing for their release. This year it won’t be like that. “It’s called ‘leil haseder’ but it won’t have any seder,” she added, referencing the Hebrew word for order. She did add, however, that her family would be taking time at the seder to acknowledge how their own lives were saved on October 7. “My family was saved from Nir Oz,” she said. “We get to say thank God for giving our lives back.” Dancyg, who lived with her grandfather growing up, spoke of the close bond she shared with him. “I talked with him about everything. I talked with him about love and he was responding like a 16-year-old boy.” It’s not only hostage families whose experience of Passover has been altered. For Israelis, the festival is the first major Jewish holiday since October 7, which was itself the festival of Simchat Torah, and many Israelis are feeling unease, especially amid a recent flare-up of tensions with Iran that included the launch of 300 drones and missiles at Israel. The first night of Passover, when much of the country pauses for families to gather, has seen terror attacks in the past, such as when a hotel hosting a seder in Netanya was bombed in 2002, killing 30, the deadliest single attack of the Second Intifada. Israeli officials believe Hamas initially planned what became the October 7 attack for Passover last year but delayed after security was elevated. The Netanya bombing targeted extended families who had gathered at the hotel, in keeping with Israeli tradition. But for many of the roughly 118,000 Israelis who are evacuated from their homes because of the war, this year a joint seder won’t be possible, with members of the same family scattered in different hotels all over the country. In one of the larger hotel chains along the Tel Aviv boardwalk, evacuees are particularly disgruntled after being told that their seder will be held in a separate room from the tourists from overseas. Evacuees were also told they couldn’t use the hotel’s pool over the busy holiday period. “It’s as if we’re outcasts,” one woman, Shula, who declined to give her last name, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. Among the organizations in Israel that are hoping to alleviate the challenges posed by Passover for evacuees is Colel Chabad, which has more than 25,000 people registered for its communal seders all over the country. Another is the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, which is distributing close to 19,000 debit cards amounting to a total of more than NIS 18 million  ($4.8 million) for evacuated families to use towards purchasing food items for the holiday. “’All who are hungry, come and eat’ is something recited at every Passover seder around the world,” IFCJ President Yael Eckstein told JTA. “With so many evacuees not in their own homes, and so many suffering from loss or the unknown fate of their loved ones, this will be a Passover like none Israel has ever experienced before. Our commitment is to continue to help feed and provide for those who need it, how and where they need it.” Medical aid group Yad Sarah is assisting evacuees, the wounded and the elderly holding non-traditional seders by providing at-home hospitalization supplies and accessible transportation to seder destinations on Passover eve. Other efforts are underway to ensure that Israelis are able to observe and celebrate the holiday, wherever they are. With a larger-than-normal number of soldiers on active duty, army bases will be hosting more seders than usual. And in a particularly heart-rending effort this week, a top government minister implored the United Nations to ensure that Israeli hostages in Gaza can access the ritual foods - grape juice and matzah - needed to fulfill the most basic commandments on Passover. In Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square, thousands gathered this week for a “Unity and Freedom Rally” ahead of Passover. Eli Bibas, father of Yarden Bibas and grandfather to the youngest hostages held by Hamas, 4-year-old Ariel and 1-year-old Kfir, said that from his perspective, “Passover was not a holiday” this year. A day earlier, new video footage emerged of a bloodied Yarden being taken by his captors through the streets of Gaza on October 7 as an angry mob surrounded him. أعلن الجيش الإسرائيلي أنه تمكن من تحرير رهينتين في غزة، واصفين تلك الخطوة بـ«العملية الناجحة الثانية من نوعها»، منذ الهجوم الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة في السابع من أكتوبر الماضي. ولفتت صحيفة Times of Israel الإسرائيلية، أن جيش الاحتلال أخرج رهينتين من قبضة حماس، حسب تصريحاتهم. وذكرت أن الرهينتين هما فرناندو سيمون مارمان، البالغ من العمر 60 عامًا ونوربرتو لويس هار، 70 عامًا، خلال عملية مشتركة للجيش الإسرائيلي وجهاز الأمن الداخلي «الشاباك» والشرطة الإسرائيلية في مدينة رفح جنوب قطاع غزة. وزعمت الصحيفة أنه تم اختطافهم من كيبوتس (مستوطنة) نير إسحق في 7 أكتوبر الماضي. وقال المتحدث باسم الجيش الإسرائيلي، أفيخاي أدرعي، بحسابه على موقع فيسبوك: «وضع المختطفين الصحي جيد وقد نقلا إلى الفحوصات الطبية في المجمع الطبي وقوات الأمن ستواصل العمل في كافة الوسائل لاعادة المختطفين». تابع: «وصلت القوات بصورة سرية إلى مكان الهدف ونفذت عملية معقدة جدًا داخل مبنى حيث تم احتجاز المختطفيْن في الطابق الثاني من المبنى. لقد تواجد عدد من المسلحين داخل الشقة السكنية وفي الشقق المجاورة حيث اقتحمت القوات المبنى وتمكنت من تحرير المختطفين لتدير اشتباكات أثناء عملية التحرير». استطرد: «هذه العملية البطولية تؤكد عزم إسرائيل بذل كل جهد مستطاع لاعادة المختطفين إلى ديارهم. سنعمل المستحيل وسنعيدهم». في المقابل، أعلنت وزارة الصحة في غزة، صباح اليوم الاثنين، أن تلك العملية الإسرائيلية أدت إلى سقوط نحو مائة شهيد غالبيتهم أطفال ونساء. وقالت الوزارة، في منشور على صفحتهم بموقع فيسبوك، إن «الاحتلال الإسرائيلي ارتكب 19 مجزرة ضد العائلات في قطاع غزة راح ضحيتها 164 شهيدًا وتسببت في 200 إصابة خلال الـ 24 ساعة الماضية». ...قراءة المزيد

نشرت صحيفة Times of Israel مقالا للكاتب Cnaan Liphshiz تناول فيه تقريرا أعده الباحثان الديمغرافيان دانييل ستايتسكى وسيرجيو ديلا بيرجولا حول انخفاض أعداد اليهود فى أوروبا، والذى أُرجع بعض أسبابه إلى الزواج المختلط وانخفاض معدلات الإرهاب وهجرة اليهود بسبب معاداة السامية.. نعرض منه ما يلى. أظهرت دراسة ديموغرافية جديدة أن نسبة اليهود من سكان أوروبا الآن منخفضة كما كانت قبل 1000 عام، والنسبة فى تراجع. وهذا وفقا للدراسة التى نشرها معهد أبحاث السياسية اليهودية فى لندن، حيث وجدت أن 1.3 مليون شخص يصفون أنفسهم بأنهم يهود فى أوروبا والمملكة المتحدة وتركيا وروسيا. وقد انخفض هذا الرقم بنحو 60٪ منذ عام 1970، عندما كان هناك 3.2 مليون يهودى فى نفس المنطقة، كما كتب معدا التقرير دانييل ستايتسكى وسيرجيو ديلا بيرجولا. وأظهرت البيانات أن هذا التراجع الذى جاء بعد وفاة حوالى 6 ملايين يهودى أوروبى فى محارق اليهود، يرجع فى الغالب إلى هجرة أكثر من 1.5 مليون شخص بعد انهيار الستار الحديدي ــ الذى عزل بين أوروبا الشرقية والغربية. وأوروبا الغربية أيضًا فقدت 8,5٪ من سكانها اليهود منذ عام 1970. فهى الآن موطن لما يزيد قليلا عن مليون يهودى مقارنة بـ 1,112 مليون فى عام 1970.يبدو أن أعداد اليهود فى ألمانيا وصل إلى «محطته الأخيرة» لأن أكثر من 40٪ من اليهود الذين يبلغ عددهم 118 ألف يهودى هم فوق سن 65، فى حين أن أقل من 10٪ أقل من 15 سنة، كما تقول الدراسة. هذا الواقع، الموجود أيضًا فى روسيا وأوكرانيا ينذر بمعدلات وفيات عالية وتراجع سكانى حتمى فى المستقبل.***هذا المسح يعتبر الأكثر شمولا للتركيبة السكانية عالمى للسكان والذى أجراه «بنيامين» من مدينة تطيلة الإسبانية، وهو رحالة يهودى من العصور الوسطى، فى عام 1170.تشير الدراسة أيضًا إلى أن هناك 2.8 مليون شخص فى أوروبا اليوم يحق لهم الهجرة إلى إسرائيل على أساس أصولهم اليهودية الموروثة ــ من لديه على الأقل جد يهودى واحد ــ لكنهم ليسوا بالضرورة يهودًا أو يعرفون على هذا النحو.كانت التركيبة السكانية ليهود أوروبا لتصبح مختلفة تمامًا لولا تأثير محارق اليهود، العالمى، والتى غالبًا ما يتم الاستشهاد بها فى الأبحاث والتقارير.يتحدث موقع الكونجرس اليهودى الأوروبى عن وجود 1,929,650 يهوديًا فى أوروبا اليوم ــ ما يقرب من 33٪ أكثر من العدد الذى تم التوصل إليه فى التقرير الجديد. أما المؤتمر اليهودى العالمى فيشير إلى وجود 1,438 مليون يهودى فى أوروبا.فرنسا، التى لديها ثانى أكبر عدد من اليهود بعد الولايات المتحدة، هى المسئولة عن الكثير من الانخفاض فى أعداد اليهود فى أوروبا الغربية. وفقًا للتقرير يوجد فى فرنسا حاليًا 449 ألف يهودى مقارنة بـ 530 ألفًا فى عام 1970، ومنذ عام 2000 انتقل 51,455 يهوديًا فرنسيًا إلى إسرائيل، أكثر بكثير من أى دولة أوروبية غربية أخرى. وتأتى بلجيكا فى المركز الثانى بفارق كبير، حيث انتقل 2,571 يهوديا إلى إسرائيل.قال ديلا بيرجولا إنه فى ظل معدل التراجع الحالى، فإن كندا ــ التى تضم حاليًا حوالى 391 ألف يهودى وفقًا لبيانات المؤتمر اليهودى العالمي ــ ستتفوق قريبًا على فرنسا كموطن لثانى أكبر جالية يهودية فى العالم بعد الولايات المتحدة.. من ضمن أسباب هجرة اليهود الفرنسيين هى الفرص الاقتصادية والخوف من معاداة السامية. وقال ديلا بيرجولا إن فرنسا اليوم مكان يمكن فيه قطع رأس مدرس تاريخ فى الشارع.كما يظهر التقرير أن تركيا، التى كان بها 39 ألف يهودى فى عام 1970، لديها الآن 14,600 فقط. هذا الانخفاض هو نتاج معدل إنجاب منخفض ومعدل هجرة مرتفع وسط ما يسميه العديد من اليهود المحليين صعود معاداة السامية التى تدعمها الحكومة.تركيا ليست الوحيدة، إن انخفاض الخصوبة هى سمة لليهود فى أوروبا، باستثناء تلك الدول التى تضم عددًا كبيرًا من اليهود الأرثوذكس. التزاوج المختلط يكمل الصورة.. فهذان العاملان يخفضان القدرة الإنجابية للعديد من السكان اليهود الأوروبيين مما سيؤدى إلى انخفاض عددى فى المستقبل.معدلات الزواج المختلط هى الأدنى فى بلجيكا، حيث يقدر أن 14٪ فقط من اليهود متزوجون من غير اليهود. وهى الأعلى فى بولندا، حيث تبلغ نسبة من هم متزوجون من غير اليهود 76٪. النسبة 24٪ فى المملكة المتحدة، و31٪ فى فرنسا، وأكثر من 50٪ فى المجر وهولندا والدنمارك والسويد.ما أشار له التقرير بخصوص ألمانيا ملفت للنظر، فأشار إلى تدفق نحو 200 ألف يهودى للأراضى الألمانية بعد انهيار الاتحاد السوفيتى فى 1990. هذه الموجة، بالإضافة إلى هجرة حوالى 10 آلاف إسرائيلى، أدى إلى تنشيط يهود ألمانيا. ولكن الوافدين الجدد فشلوا فى إعادة تشكيل ديمغرافيا المجتمع بسبب التزاوج المختلط، أو تركهم للديانة اليهودية، أو هجرتهم إلى مكان آخر، أو موتهم.***هناك بعض الاستثناءات لهذا التراجع، وخاصة فى الدول التى بها طائفة أرثوذوكسية يهودية كبيرة.. فوفقًا للتقرير، فإن السكان اليهود فى النمسا وبلجيكا والمملكة المتحدة وسويسرا، وجميعهم ينتمون إلى مجتمعات أرثوذكسية، قد يتزايدون، أو على الأقل لا تنخفض أعدادهم.وأظهرت الدراسة أنه فى بلجيكا، حيث أكثر من نصف اليهود البالغ عددهم 29 ألفًا من الأرثوذكس، فإن 43٪ من الأسر اليهودية لديها أربعة أطفال على الأقل. فى هولندا، حيث يشكل اليهود الأرثوذكس أقلية صغيرة من أعداد اليهود، والبالغ عددهم تقريبا مثل بلجيكا، فإن حوالى 18٪ فقط من العائلات لديها هذا العدد الكبير من الأطفال.إلا أن بلجيكا تشهد ما يسميه بعض قادة المجتمع اليهودى هناك «نزوحًا صامتًا»، من خلال بيع المعابد اليهودية السابقة وإغلاق المؤسسات التعليمية اليهودية فى بروكسل.وأشارت الدراسة إلى أن الأقلية اليهودية فى المملكة المتحدة تراجعت بنسبة 25٪ منذ عام 1970 لتصل إلى مع التقديرات التى تشير إلى أن هناك عشرات الآلاف منهم يعيشون فى برلين وحدها. فيشير استطلاع الرأى أن هناك حوالى 70 ألف فرد فقط من مواليد إسرائيل يعيشون على القارة بأكملها، وأكثر من نصفهم يقيمون فى المملكة المتحدة (18 ألفا) وألمانيا (10 آلاف) وفرنسا (9 آلاف) وهولندا (6 آلاف).مع ذلك، كان الإسرائيليون قوة استقرار للمجتمعات اليهودية فى الدول التى بها مجتمعات يهودية صغيرة جدًا ــ على سبيل المثال، يمثلون أكثر من 40٪ من جميع اليهود فى النرويج وفنلندا وسلوفينيا، 20ــ30٪ فى إسبانيا والدنمارك والنمسا وهولندا، وأكثر من 10٪ فى لوكسمبورغ.ولكن بشكل عام، من غير المرجح أن ينعكس اتجاه تناقص أعداد اليهود
